Express Personal Services

An employment company based in Oklahoma City, has provided temporary help for some rather unique jobs. They’ve placed workers to chase deer off an airport runway for $8 an hour or pour thousands of cans of rancid beverage down a drain for $6 an hour.

One of the most unusual placements came from a company in Redmond, Washington. Three people were paid $11 an hour to appear busy and professional so visitors would think the company had a larger staff. Their job was to simply look like they were working.

Sunday School workers must do far more than just appear busy; they are the workforce of the church. Not every worker is a teacher, and not every Sunday School class is for little children. Nevertheless, every worker has a vital role to perform, whether praying over their classmates/students, teaching, greeting, visiting in homes, singing, providing refreshments, organizing, planning, building relationships, or welcoming new class members.

Because the Sunday School is a work for the Lord Jesus Christ, we must raise the standard of what it means to be a Sunday School worker.

Every Sunday School Worker Must Be Saved

There is nothing more important than knowing Christ as your Savior. How can a Sunday School worker help others to know the Lord if the worker himself does not know the Lord?

The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. II Peter 3:9

Every Sunday School Worker Must Be Separated

The worker bears the testimony of Jesus Christ as well as that of his/her church. He/she is an extension of the pastor and a leader in the classroom. Separation is a necessity. Our separation is from the world and to the Lord. Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated unto the gospel of God, (Romans 1:1)

Every Sunday School Worker Must Be Faithful

It has been well said that the greatest ability is availability. No matter if the job is small or large, the worker must be faithful!

Be in church every time the doors are open! Support the special meetings and activities of the church! Be the person who is sorely missed should you become sick and not in your place. You cannot teach others to be faithful to God if you are hit-and-miss to church!

Most men will proclaim every one his own goodness: but a faithful man who can find? (Proverbs 20:6)

Every Sunday School Worker Must Be Loyal

Loyalty means that the worker has no separate agenda. He/she is following the Lord, obeying God’s word, and working as an extension of the pastor. Loyalty involves enthusiasm! Loyalty involves willingness to work! The worker is not half-hearted but whole-hearted! Loyalty does not mean a worker has no opinion or point of view. However, the loyal worker will always share his opinion in an appropriate manner, not seeking to gain a following to himself or herself but looking only to strengthen the body of Christ.

Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ. (1 Corinthians 11:1)

The Sunday School worker is the workforce of the church!
