Established in 1964. Still moving forward.
Friendship began with prayer, a Bible, and a small group of people who wanted a church where Jesus Christ would be preached. We are grateful for that history—and we believe there is still work to do.
A church begins.
In the fall of 1964, God stirred a young preacher to move his family to Stanly County and start a church that would preach Jesus Christ and be free of associational or denominational control. Going door-to-door, Pastor T.R. Moore found people God had prepared. With prayer to God, a Bible, and love for one another, that small group joined together as a church in the living room of a charter member.
Years of faithful growth.
“Anyone can do a great work for God if no one cares who gets the glory for it,” said Pastor D.O. Lingafelt, who came to Friendship in 1970 with his wife, Betty. During his 34-year ministry the church began a bus ministry and radio broadcast, enlarged its facilities, established a Christian daycare, expanded its missionary emphasis, and saw many people come to Christ.
The work continues.
Pastor Jon Stephens came in 2005 with renewed emphasis on youth ministry, a Spanish-speaking church, caring for people, and improving the facilities. In 2010, Clint Lewey was called as pastor. Today, Friendship continues preaching Christ, making disciples, carrying out the Great Commission, strengthening the church, and building for another generation.
What should I know before I visit?
What if I don’t know about my relationship with God?
That is okay. The Lord wants you to know Him, and the church exists to lead people to Christ. You can visit a service or contact us to speak with someone about knowing Christ and growing in Him.
What kind of church is Friendship?
We are a local church committed to preaching Jesus Christ, loving people, teaching the Bible, making disciples, and carrying out the Great Commission.
What time are services?
Sunday School is at 9:45 AM, Sunday services are at 11:00 AM and 6:00 PM, and Wednesday Prayer & Bible Study is at 7:00 PM.
Who are the church leaders?
Clint Lewey serves as pastor. Will Allen and Ted Huneycutt serve as deacons, helping the pastor and serving the church. James and Leah Burnette serve as church treasurers. Many others faithfully serve in public and behind-the-scenes roles.
Is there a nursery?
Yes. Our nursery is available for newborns through age 2 and is located in the front hallway near the main entrance.
How do I become a member?
Church membership is for saved people and is a commitment in Christ to a local church. Speak with the pastor or a deacon, share your testimony of salvation, and they will walk with you through the church’s process for receiving new members.
Where do I go when I arrive?
You may park in the front or back, with entrances in both locations. Handicap access is available from the rear parking lot.
What about my children?
Children older than 2 begin the 11:00 service in the auditorium and may be dismissed to age-appropriate classes. Parents are also welcome to keep their children with them. Toddler and elementary classes are available.
What if I have a private question?
We would be glad to talk after a service or arrange another time that works for you. You can also call or email the church office.
There is room to serve and help us build.
We do not believe the work is finished. We want to be faithful with what God has given us and keep strengthening this church for the people and generation ahead.
